Parliament has passed the long-awaited strata laws, affecting collective sale, renovations, proxy farming, defects and parking.  The laws come into effect in mid-2016 after new regulations are developed, information provided for stratas, and a public awareness campaign to inform people of their rights and responsibilities.
Minister Dominello says that the laws ‘will modernise collective decision making, increase protections against unresolved building defects and improve outdated regulation on renovations.’ Public consultation on draft regulations, including model by-laws, will begin in early 2016.
Jacksons Landing is too old for protection against building defects, and too new to care about the collective sale of old buildings, but we should benefit from reforms to governance.
