Many local residents attended the memorial gathering for Andy who’ lived rough’ in Pyrmont for over 10 years. This memorial was held on the foreshore on Saturday 20 September 2014.
A plaque has been placed on the bench where he often sat. The Police have been unable to further identify him or to find any relatives.
We have been informed by the Coroner’s office that he died of natural causes. The NSW Coroner decided that he should be buried and not cremated as we had planned.
The burial was at Rookwood Cemetery on Monday 27 July at 9am. A small group of Pyrmont residents attended the funeral to say goodbye from the community.
The $ 4,808 that was raised is sitting in the Andy Memorial Fund at the Bendigo Bank. This money will be used for a plaque at Rookwood and to support homeless services. The plan is to have a fundraising event each year to continue to support homeless services and further updates will be posted on this website.
